Tateyama Back to the Rangers

This from the Texas Rangers and Round Rock Express this afternoon:

Arlington, Texas The Texas Rangers announced prior to tonight’s game that the club has placed right-handed pitcher Mark Lowe on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Tuesday, with strained right intercostal muscle.  To take his place on the active roster, the team has recalled right-handed pitcher Yoshinori Tateyama from Triple-A Round Rock.

Lowe’s last appearance was Monday against Detroit, when he pitched 3.0 scoreless innings, which matched the longest outing of his major league career.  He has compiled no record with a 2.30 ERA (8 ER/31.1 IP) over 26 relief appearances for Texas this season.  The first date he would be eligible to return is July 11.

Tateyama, 36, will be in his second stint with the Rangers this season, as he was also with the club from May 21-June 15.  He has a 1-0 record over 7 relief appearances with Texas this season, allowing 13 runs (11 earned) in 8.1 innings.  He has spent the rest of the season at Round Rock, going 1-0 with a 0.43 ERA (1 ER/21.0 IP) in 16 relief outings.  He has pitched 4.1 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts in 4 games since he was optioned to Round Rock on June 16.  His last appearance was last night vs. Nashville (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO, 15 pitches/11 strikes).

With these moves, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster.
