Tateyama Back to the Rangers
This from the Texas Rangers and Round Rock Express this afternoon:
Arlington, Texas– The Texas Rangers announced prior to tonight’s game that the club has placed right-handed pitcher Mark Lowe on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Tuesday, with strained right intercostal muscle. To take his place on the active roster, the team has recalled right-handed pitcher Yoshinori Tateyama from Triple-A Round Rock.
Lowe’s last appearance was Monday against Detroit, when he pitched 3.0 scoreless innings, which matched the longest outing of his major league career. He has compiled no record with a 2.30 ERA (8 ER/31.1 IP) over 26 relief appearances for Texas this season. The first date he would be eligible to return is July 11.
Tateyama, 36, will be in his second stint with the Rangers this season, as he was also with the club from May 21-June 15. He has a 1-0 record over 7 relief appearances with Texas this season, allowing 13 runs (11 earned) in 8.1 innings. He has spent the rest of the season at Round Rock, going 1-0 with a 0.43 ERA (1 ER/21.0 IP) in 16 relief outings. He has pitched 4.1 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts in 4 games since he was optioned to Round Rock on June 16. His last appearance was last night vs. Nashville (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO, 15 pitches/11 strikes).
With these moves, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster.
Miclat to DL, Guilder Glides Back to Express
By Wade Hilligoss
Round Rock, Texas – Infielder Greg Miclat has been placed on the seven-day disabled list. To take his spot, infielder Guilder Rodriguez (#5) has been assigned to Round Rock from Frisco (AA).
Miclat left last night’s game after what looked like an injury to his left hand slding into first base on an infield single. He was hitting .268 with a home run, 11 RBI and three stolen bases. He was hitting better as of late but will make his second trip to the DL this year.
Rodriguez appeared in 41 games for the Express last season, batting .270 with 13 RBI. He was assigned to Frisco to begin 2012 where he was hitting .228 with 10 RBI and 10 stolen bases.
The E-Train DL is now three-deep (C Elio Sarmiento, 3B Tommy Mendonca, Miclat). With two infielders disabled, second and third base will be a combination of Yangervis Solarte, Matt Kata and Rodriguez.
With these two moves Round Rock still has a full 25-man roster.
